Learn About The Historic Carlyle House And Park

Carlyle House was built in 1753 by British merchant and city founder John Carlyle. The Georgian mansion gained a place in history when British General Edward Braddock made it his headquarters in 1755 and summoned five colonial governors to plan the early campaigns of the French and Indian War.

The Carlyle House site, which includes the 18th-century mansion and gardens, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers daily tours of the house, school programs, special events, exhibits, holiday open houses, and lectures that explore the life and times of John Carlyle in pre-Revolutionary Alexandria.

Carlyle House and Park are located at 121 N. Fairfax Street, in Old Town Alexandria. The house is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sundays noon to 4 pm.
